Abstract<\/em><\/p>\n This research will focus on observing the development of preaching Islam in Bengkulu by applying historical anthropologist that is tracking the historical background of the mosque through four levels of activities: heuristic, critique, interpretation, and data presentation. The finding shows that the development of Islam in Bengkulu historically gives general view, the role of the mosque as the center of preaching on the mosque being observed. The mosque in Bengkulu (among three of them being observed) have present the figure of Islam <\/em>\u2018Ahlussunnah wal jamaah<\/em>\u2019<\/em> which was brought from North Sumatra. Islam which is featuring Javanese culture had left the tradition of <\/em>\u2018ratib <\/em>jirat<\/em>\u2019 in the mosque of Syuhada between 19th<\/sup> to 20th<\/sup> century. During this period the mosque was not only used as religious activities but also as media in discussing any problems for the societies. This is can be seen on the book <\/em>\u2018simbur <\/em>cahayo<\/em>\u2019 the Bengkulu act. More over the mosque had it functions as the centre of Islamic education and a place to protect them from any attack during the war.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Keyword: History, mosque, the development ofIslam<\/em><\/p>\n Abstrak<\/em><\/p>\n Penelitian ini menitik beratkan pada pengamatan perkembangan penyebaran Islam di Bengkulu dengan meruntut sejarah latar belakang dari perkembangan masjid secara antropologis melalui empat tingkatan analisis: historis, kritik, interpretasi, dan data presentasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perkembangan Islam di Bengkulu secara historis menunjukkan peranan masjid sebagai pusat penyebaran agama. Dari masjid yang diamati (tiga diantaranya) telah menunjukkan bentuk ajaran Islam Ahlssunnah wal jamaah yang dibawa dari sumatra Barat. Islam yang menonjolkan budaya Jawa telah meninggalkan tradisi dari ratib jirat di masjis Syuhada antara abad ke19 sampai 20. Selama periode tersebut masjid tidak hanya digunakan sebagai media untuk mendiskusikan berbagai masalah bagi masyarakat. Hal ini dapat dilihat dalam buku Simbur Cahayo pada piagam Bengkulu.
