This research was aimed at knowing the practices of inter-faith marriage. This research used the descriptive-qualitative method with the sociological and juridical approach. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The site of the research was the Banjaran Village, Mangunsari, Sidomukti, Salatiga. There were some factors encouraging a person to have inter-faith marriage. Those were: knowledge of the religion, social status, tradition, economy, and Christianization. In term of the freedom of religious expressions, none of the inter-faith marriage practitioners were oppressed. Religious conversion was promoted by one of the couple. Generally, wives were more successful in promoting their religions to their children. The inter-faith marriage is forbidden by the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) and the Marriage Law. The inter-faith marriage mostly happened when one of the couple had converted to the religion of the partner then reconvert to his/her previous religion (hilah). This hilah practices ruin the legalities of the marriages as prescribed by the Law. There is a need to review the law.
