Abstract
This research aims to know the strategies employed by wooden batik industries amidst multiple crises, especially the economic crisis. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method and the phenomenological approach. Data are gathered through observation, interview, and documentation. The site of the research is Jarum village, Bayat, Klaten, Central Java, as this is the centre of the Batik Craft. There are various strategies implemented by the Batik entrepreneurs to cope with the crises, among them are self-exploitation, profit reduction, raw-materials conversion, workers payment scheme, women workers recruitment, clear and visible marketing, and social capital. The most recognizable strategy is the social capital due to its successful role as filter even though it also entails negative side effects.
