Abstaksi
In theory, the stratification of imam (the leader of prayer) in a mosque should be guided by religious texts, The Quran and Hadits. The texts have regulated who has more rights to be the imam. However, when a Muslim society creates the stratification of imam in a mosque, social contexts are strongly embedded and affect in the establishment of the hierarchical stratification of imam. This research, which was conducted in some mosques in Bogor Indonesia, shows that economic factors determine the creation of hierarchical stratification of the imam, and followed by other factors consecutively, namely: religious education, age and status of either native or non native people in the neighborhood of the mosque.
