PROFILE, POTENCY AND CHANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TAMAN PENDIDIKAN AL-QUR’AN (TPQ)

Abstract

This research aims to find the reality of various problems dealing with the existence of Al Qur’an Education Council (Taman Pendidikan Al Qur’an) along with its potency and development opportunity in four districts, in Salatiga. This research uses qualitative approach which means the subject of the research is managers of TPQ consisting of director, teachers, and coordinators. Finding of the research is that despite in Salatiga as pluralistic city, there are 120 TPQ (es) carried out professionally by Islamic scholars and applying iqra systems on learning and teaching process. Besides, there are four problems encountered on running TPQ such as, low salary for teachers, limited classroom, various ages and level of students’ competence, and lack of attention from the government.
